The Gillette College Athletics Department is thrilled to announce the promotion of Casey Rae Sellers to Head Rodeo Coach following the retirement of the program's only head coach, Will LaDuke.
LaDuke, who began the rodeo program at Gillette College 20 years ago, retired at the end of October to spend time with his family. "I decided to retire because it's been hard for me to keep up with my kids as they get older and the work needed at the ranch," he stated. However, he knows the program is in good hands. "It's been a good 20 years. I'll always support Gllette College and Casey Rae."
Sellers has been a valued member of the Pronghorn rodeo program since 2014, first competing on the team, and then returning in 2021 to serve as the Assistant Coach, and now steps into the lead role with excitement and dedication.
During her tenure as Assistant Coach, Sellers has played an instrumental role in mentoring student-athletes, developing their skills, and fostering a culture of hard work, resilience, and sportsmanship. Her commitment to the success of both the team and individual athletes has been evident in the program's growth and achievements over the past several seasons.
"We are excited to have Casey Rae be the second leader of our rodeo program," said Janie Rayback, Gillette College Athletic Director. "Her passion for the sport, combined with her experience as a coach and mentor, makes her the perfect fit to continue building the legacy of Pronghorn Rodeo. We are confident that under her leadership, our student-athletes will continue to achieve great success both on and off the arena."
Sellers, a native of Rozet, WY, brings not only coaching experience but also firsthand knowledge of the rodeo circuit as a competitor. She is committed to helping student-athletes reach their full potential while maintaining a strong focus on academics and personal development.
"I'm humbled and grateful to take on this role at a place I truly believe in." said Sellers. "Coach LaDuke put 20 years of his life into making this program great, and it's a privilege to carry that forward. With the support of this college, this athletic program, and this incredible community, I'm excited to see our student-athletes grow, succeed, and continue the tradition of excellence that defines Gillette College Rodeo."
Gillette College Rodeo is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), and the program looks forward to a bright future under Sellers' leadership. The department encourages fans, alumni, and the community to support the Pronghorn Rodeo team as they prepare for an exciting season ahead.
The Gillette College Athletics Department thanks Will LaDuke for his unwavering support and dedication to the rodeo team over the last two decades, and wishes him nothing but the best in this next chapter of his life.
