Cooper Filipek Named Male Athlete of the Year
A well-earned accolade bestowed upon the cowboy in the yellow hat!
Over the past three years at Gillette College, Cooper has exemplified resilience, dedication, and leadership, making him a truly deserving candidate for this honor.
Despite facing significant injuries along the way that prevented him from competing, Cooper remained committed to his academic success. He balanced a full-time job while excelling in his studies, demonstrating an admirable work ethic and determination. His ability to stay focused on his goals, even when faced with adversity, is an inspiration to his peers. This last fall he was unable to compete, yet he came into the spring with a vengeance and won 4 of the 5 spring rodeos, qualifying him for the CNFR for the third time. That is almost unheard of to qualify with just one semester of competition
Cooper's passion for rodeo extends far beyond his personal ambitions. He can be found at the barn every single day, tirelessly working to improve and develop his skills, often when no one is watching. His dedication to the sport is matched only by his commitment to mentoring younger rodeo athletes. He takes the time to encourage and guide youth, helping them grow not just as competitors but as individuals. His positive influence is a testament to his character and the impact he has on those around him.
Being in Cooper's presence is a joy; his enthusiasm for rodeo and life is contagious. He uplifts everyone around him with his infectious spirit, inspiring others to pursue their passions and strive for excellence.
As Cooper prepares to graduate this spring, we take pride in the person he has become during his time at Gillette College. His integrity, dedication, and leadership qualities make him an outstanding representative of our institution. I have no doubt that he will continue to embody these values as he moves forward in his future endeavors.
For these reasons, Cooper is very deserving of this award. He is not just a remarkable athlete; he is a great human being who embodies the spirit of Gillette College.
