Gillette College Rodeo Welcomes Mattson Back to the Team
The Gillette College Rodeo program continues to build momentum for the future with a powerful addition to its coaching staff. A familiar face with an elite competitive résumé is returning to Pronghorn country—this time on the other side of the arena—as national champion and former Gillette College athlete Bodie Mattson joins the program as Assistant Coach.
The Gillette College Rodeo program is proud to announce the addition of Bodie Mattson as Assistant Coach, bringing one of the most accomplished and respected young competitors in the rodeo industry back to Pronghorn country.
Mattson first attended Gillette College in 2020, where he began building the foundation of both his academic and rodeo career. He later continued his education at the University of Wyoming, earning a bachelor's degree in Marketing and is now only a few credits away from completing his master's degree. His commitment to education mirrors the values of the Gillette College Rodeo program—developing student-athletes who succeed both in the arena and in the classroom.
In the rodeo arena, Mattson's résumé is extensive and elite. He is the 2024 and 2025 NFR Open All-Around Champion and the 2024 NFR Open Tie-Down Champion, solidifying his place among the top competitors in the country. His success across the Badlands Circuit is equally impressive, earning 2023 and 2024 Year-End Tie-Down and All-Around Champion titles, the 2024 Team Roping Average Championship. During his collegiate career, Mattson also took the 2023 and 2025 Heading Championships, and the 2024 Calf Roping Championship in the Central Rocky Mountain Region and made a strong national impact, placing 3rd in the nation at the College National Finals Rodeo in 2023.
Beyond his competitive success, Mattson is widely known for his work ethic, professionalism, and dedication to helping others improve. His versatility across multiple events and his experience competing at the highest levels of rodeo will be an invaluable resource for Gillette College student-athletes. As a former Pronghorn himself, he understands the culture and expectations of the program and brings a strong desire to invest in its continued growth and success.
"Bodie represents the kind of leader and competitor we want our student-athletes to learn from," said Head Coach Casey Sellers. "He understands what it takes to compete at a high level while balancing academics, and he carries himself in a way that reflects the values of our program. We're excited to have him back at Gillette College and look forward to the impact he'll have on our team."
Mattson will work closely with athletes across multiple events, assisting with practices, competition preparation, and mentorship as the team prepares for the upcoming spring season and the 2026 CNFR run.
The Gillette College Rodeo program is excited to welcome Coach Bodie Mattson back to campus and looks forward to the leadership, experience, and competitive edge he brings to the Pronghorns.
