Guthmiller Commits to Play Basketball for Pronghorns
Gillette, WY – Gillette College is thrilled to announce the commitment of Sofie Guthmiller from Spearfish High School to join the Pronghorns women's basketball program for the upcoming season. A multi-sport athlete with a passion for excellence both on and off the court, Guthmiller has made her mark as a standout player and dedicated student.
Sofie, who has played under the guidance of Coach Dakota Johnson, has been an integral part of the Spearfish High School basketball team. Throughout her high school career, she has amassed an impressive list of accolades, including being named Freshman MVP (2020-21), Junior Varsity MVP (2022-23), and Varsity Defensive MVP (2023-24). Her tenacity and leadership on the court contributed to Spearfish's Class AA State 7th place finish in 2024.
In addition to her basketball achievements, Sofie has demonstrated exceptional skill in soccer and track. She received the Varsity Rookie of the Year award in soccer (2021) and earned Black Hills All Conference honors in both soccer (1st team, 2023) and track (Long Jump Champion, 2022). Her impressive athletic prowess extends to volleyball as well, where she was awarded Freshman MVP (2020).
Off the court, Sofie continues to excel academically, earning Academic All-State honors in soccer, basketball, and track. As a member of the National Honor Society, where she serves as Secretary, she showcases her commitment to leadership and community service. Sofie's dedication to her education is further evidenced by her consistent placement on the A Honor Roll and recognition as Student of the Month.
In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits, Sofie is actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Tip of the Spear Committee, aiming to inspire and lead her peers through positive influence and action.
Sofie is excited to further her education and athletic career at Gillette College, where she plans to major in Exercise Science. "I chose Gillette College because it has the programs that I want to pursue, as well as the teacher to student ratio is designed for student success. After meeting with the coaches, I felt the support and positivity that they have established at Gillette. I can't wait to see what this season brings!" Sofie expressed.
