With the regular season nearing its end, the Gillette College basketball teams picked up big conference wins Saturday afternoon against Western Wyoming Community College.
The women, who lost 81-69 at Western Wyoming earlier in the season, defeated the visitors 78-65 with a suffocating defense that forced 15 turnovers and had 12 steals.
Western Wyoming outscored the Pronghorns in the second half, but Gillette College's 45-29 lead at halftime was too much for them to overcome.
Williams had 18 rebounds to go along with her 22 points, including five on the offensive side.
Rochelle Afo-Manuma, who had nine points, 10 boards and six steals, said the team learned from its last game against Western Wyoming.
"We made sure we played our game," she said. "We liked to play fast-paced and push the ball. They really picked our zone apart last time, and so it was more communicating defensively and making sure we are getting to our rotations on time."
The win puts Gillette College at 17-8. There are just five games left in the season and three more games at the Pronghorn Center.
They will host Casper College on Wednesday for a big conference matchup. Casper, with a 4-3 conference record, sits a game behind the Pronghorns, who are 5-2.
