Midfield Set to Drive Gillette College Women's Soccer in 2026

Following a 10-win campaign and a second consecutive postseason appearance in 2025, Gillette enters the new season with a talented and hardworking group of midfielders capable of influencing every phase of the game. From controlling possession to creating scoring opportunities and providing leadership on both sides of the ball, the midfield unit will play a critical role in the team's success.

With a blend of experienced returners and talented newcomers, the Pronghorns have assembled a group that has the potential to become one of the strengths of the squad.

Experienced Leaders Return

Leading the midfield group is sophomore Karly Sabey of Lyman, Wyoming. Sabey enters the season after earning All-Conference honors in 2025 and establishing herself as one of the team's most consistent performers.

Her ability to impact matches offensively while maintaining possession and connecting play across the field makes her a vital piece of the Pronghorn attack. As one of the team's returning leaders, Sabey will be counted on to help set the standard for the midfield unit.

"Karly's experience and leadership are invaluable," said Head Coach Anthony Longo. "She's a player who understands the game, competes every day, and helps elevate the players around her."

Joining Sabey is Gillette native Erika Martinez, who continues to develop into an important contributor in the center of the park. Martinez brings energy, determination, and a strong work ethic that embodies the culture of the program. Her familiarity with the team's system and expectations gives the Pronghorns another experienced presence in midfield.

Sophomore Jagoda Rachuba returns from Bydgoszcz, Poland, bringing technical ability and creativity to the lineup. Comfortable on the ball and capable of unlocking defenses with her passing, Rachuba provides another dimension to Gillette's possession-based approach.

Hailey Hubbart of Brighton, Colorado rounds out the returning group. Known for her work rate and willingness to compete, Hubbart has continued to develop into a dependable midfielder who contributes in both attacking and defensive situations. Her versatility and commitment make her a valuable asset throughout the season.

New Talent Adds Depth

The future of the midfield remains bright with the addition of two talented newcomers who are expected to compete for immediate roles.

Kaycee Campbell arrives from Casper, Wyoming, bringing athleticism, competitiveness, and a strong understanding of the game. Campbell's ability to cover ground and contribute in multiple areas of the field should make her an exciting addition to the midfield rotation.

Joining her is Elicia "Lou" Williams from Herriman, Utah. Williams enters the program with a reputation as a talented and intelligent midfielder who excels at connecting play and creating opportunities for teammates. Her technical ability and vision fit perfectly within the style of play Gillette hopes to establish this season.

Controlling the Game

The midfield group will be tasked with much more than simply winning possession. They will serve as the link between defense and attack, setting the tempo of matches and helping dictate how the Pronghorns play.

Possession and ball movement will remain key priorities for the team, and much of that responsibility will fall on the midfield unit. The ability to keep the ball, create attacking opportunities, and provide leadership during key moments will determine how successful the group can be.

"Our midfielders have to be the heartbeat of the team," Longo said. "We want players who work hard, compete for every ball, and have the confidence to control possession. This group has the talent and mentality to do that."

A Foundation for Success

As Gillette College prepares for another challenging season, the midfield appears well-positioned to lead the way.

With an All-Conference performer returning, multiple experienced sophomores ready to take on larger leadership roles, and two talented freshmen joining the program, the Pronghorns have assembled a midfield group capable of making a significant impact.

If the unit can continue to develop chemistry, maintain possession, and provide the offensive leadership the team needs, Gillette Women's Soccer will have a strong foundation for another successful season and a return trip to postseason play.
