Julia Machin | Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Kate Vondrak is a 6 '0 Iowa native who can fulfill almost every role on the volleyball court, throughout her high school career she has shined as a Middle Blocker, Right Side, and Setter. During her junior season, Kate added an impressive 225 kills, 74 blocks, and 163 digs while maintaining a 97.5% serving percentage! Though typically a key hitter for East Sac County High School in past seasons, Vondrak had to step into the role of setter her senior year. Over the course of her senior season she contributed a staggering 391 assists, 185 kills, 56 blocks, and 98 digs while boasting an impressive .331 hitting percentage! With statistics like those, it comes as no surprise that Vondrak was named All-Conference, All-District, and KCIM All-Rewind three years in a row during her varsity career at East Sac County High School. Even more impressively, Kate's stats led her to be named to the Iowa Performance National Championship Team for 2 years and the 4th Team for Iowa All-State Honors during her final high school season. Kate was also a large contributor to her team's success, helping lead them to winning the Conference Championships three times. Outside of the school volleyball season, Vondrak contributed to the success of multiple volleyball clubs over the years including East Sac County AAU from 2nd-7th grade, Northwest Iowa Premier Club Volleyball from 7th-11th grade, and Fusion Volleyball Club for her senior season!
Kate Vondrak is an all around student-athlete who has not only had an impressive athletic career, but also an impressive academic career thus far. Kate's hard work off the court led her to be inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) which is a society where members are chosen based on their Academics, Service, Leadership, and Character. She was also named to the Gold Honor Roll and the All-Academic Volleyball team all four years of high school. Vondrak also dedicated her time off the court to being involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Faith Formation. Kate is planning to study Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy during her time at Gillette College!
When asked why she chose to come to Gillette College, Kate responded "I chose Gillette College because of their academics and the ability to be a part of a growing volleyball program. The team atmosphere was awesome, very welcoming, and I felt very comfortable with Coach Julia and Jordan and their coaching style. The community is also very supportive of all sports which is exciting to see and I am looking forward to being a student athlete at Gillette College!"
