Arizona All-Star, Josie Overson, to Join Pronghorns this Fall

Josie Overson is a 5'11 Middle Blocker who is joining us from St. Johns, Arizona this upcoming fall. The Arizona native was a three sport athlete during her time at St. Johns High School, contributing to the success of the volleyball team, the basketball team, and the track team. On the volleyball court, Josie was a defensive and offensive threat! During her senior volleyball season, Overson put up 143 kills, 85 blocks, 54 digs, a .301 hitting percentage, and had a 97.1 serving percentage. Josie's consistently impressive statistics helped push the St. Johns team to be Region Champions from 2020-2023 and take them all the way to the 2022 Arizona State Volleyball Tournament where they ended the season as State Champion Runner-Ups! Overson earned a number of athletic accolades throughout her volleyball career thus far including being named to the 2nd Team All-Region 2021-2022, Region Player of the Year in 2023, 1st Team All-Conference in 2023, and earning the title of 2A Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023 season! Josie has also earned multiple awards in basketball and track, being named to the 2nd Team All-Region Basketball Team in 2023 and earning an All-Region Honorable Mention in 2022 for Shot Put/Discuss!
Josie has not only excelled on the court during her time at St. Johns High School, but she has also excelled in the classroom. Overson has held herself to the highest standard when it comes to academics, standards that she has met and exceeded throughout high school! The Arizona native was a member of numerous clubs and academic societies, holding significant titles in many. Josie was a member of the National Honor Society, Legacy Leadership Club, Drama Club, Honor Choir, and Academic Decathlon Team! Overson also earned the title of National Honor Society Treasurer, Vice President of the Legacy Leadership Club, Student Body Treasurer, Junior Class Vice President, and finally the Sophomore Class Secretary. Her hard work and academic prowess did not go unnoticed as Josie Overson was named the Valedictorian for the class of 2024! The academic all-star plans on studying Engineering during her time at Gillette College.
When we had the chance to ask Josie why she chose Gillette College, she responded, "I chose Gillette College because of the great facilities, friendly coaches, and welcoming staff. I also chose to attend Gillette College because of the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love most while getting my education paid for!"
